Potato Moon and The Northern Skies

April 10, 2014

Potato Moon is the musical endeavor of the Stancil family for the past decade. The six-person group originally formed in 2001 to promote the acoustic, bluegrass/folk-inspired album, Potato Moon, alongside Kansas City musician Barclay Martin. Subsequent albums showcased the band’s diverse musings into various sounds and styles.

The Northern Skies describes themselves as “folk rock with teeth” but this series will give them the chance to mellow with this acoustic show.

SCMC Event Regina Carter

Regina Carter

Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
TICKETS: $40 / $35 / $10 student

Regina Carter is a master of improvisational jazz violin. Though her work draws upon a wide range of musical influences—including Motown, Afro-Cuban, Swing, Bebop, Folk, and World—she has crafted a signature voice and style….Carter’s performances highlight the often overlooked potential of the jazz violin for its lyric, melodic and percussive potential.

Her early training as a classical musician is reflected in the fluidity, grace and balance of her performance. Through her albums, touring and collaborations, Regina has developed into a distinctly diverse musical personality.

She has repeatedly toured throughout the world, was the first jazz artist and African American to play Niccolo Paganini’s famed Guarneri “Cannon” violin, has been featured with several symphony orchestras and performed with artists as diverse as Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Kenny Barron and Mary J. Blige.
